Minority to stage another #OccupyBoG protest

The Minority caucus in Parliament plans to organise a second demonstration to demand the dismissal of Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), along with his two deputies. 

The Minority argues that the governor and his deputies have demonstrated poor performance and should be removed from their positions.

On October 3, 2023, the Minority marched to occupy the premises of the Central bank if Dr Addison and his deputies failed to resign from office.

The management of the Central Bank justified why they invested $250 million in the construction of a new building to serve as its new headquarters in Accra.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, the central bank explained that a structural integrity assessment it conducted revealed that its current head office building is no longer "fit for purpose" and could not stand any major earth tremors.

According to the Bank of Ghana, unlike its current BoG Head Office building, built by the Nkrumah government in the early 1960s, the new head office can stand major earth tremors.

But Members of Parliament of the NDC said they would march to occupy the premises of the Bank of Ghana if Dr. Addison fails to resign.

They have given Governor Addison up to 21 days, starting Tuesday, August 8, 2023, to leave office due to the challenges the central bank is going through.

The party led by the Minority Leader and MP for Ajumako/Enyan/Essi­am, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson said the BoG has been "grossly mismanaged" and was on the verge of collapse after it reported a GH¢60.8 billion loss and a GH¢55 billion negative equity in its 2022 Annual Report and Financial Statement.

Airbus scandal: Police statement on Interpol Red Alert was needless as Amidu unearths forgeries

The Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has described as needless the statement by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that his office' request triggered the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to issue a warrant for the arrest of Samuel Adam Fosters, also known as Samuel Adam Mahama in relation to the Airbus bribery scandal. He explained that his office built a good case warranting the Interpol red notices. The CID said it facilitated the request for the Office of the Special Prosecutor with the Interpol General Secretariat to get other security agencies to help arrest the four persons described as "fugitives". Voters registration: Over 11 million Ghanaians registered - EC

The Electoral Commission has revealed that more than eleven million Ghanaians have registered for the voters' ID card as of Friday, July 24, 2020. This indicates that the first four phases of the registration exercise have so far seen a total of 11,629,480 – eleven million six hundred and twenty-nine thousand four hundred and eight persons have registered and received their voters' ID.
