NSMQ mistress Dr. Elsie Kaufmann promoted to Associate Professor role at the University of Ghana

The Quiz Mistress for the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, has been promoted to an Associate Professor role in the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the University of Ghana.

Dr. Effah Kaufmann is a Senior Lecturer and Founding Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

She is a founder member and first Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Ghana (2006–2012, 2014–2016).

Dr. Effah Kaufmann became most popular in the public space for her role as the Quiz Mistress of the NSMQ, a role she has played since 2006.

As a researcher, she has undertaken works in Engineering Education, Design of scaffolds for tissue engineering applications, Characterisation of natural materials (e.g. cassava fibre), and Application of Biomedical Engineering concepts to addressing problems in the Ghanaian context, for example, the use of biomaterials in Ghana, and Engineering design.

The mother of two young adults was the recipient of the University of Ghana’s Best Teacher Award for the Sciences in 2009. 

In 2018, she was honoured with the  National Society of Black Engineers’ Golden Torch Award for International Academic Leadership in recognition of her excellence in support of academics at the international level and exhibition of a commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

She is also the recipient of the 2017 Impact Africa Summit Laureate for Education in Ghana.

The award recognised her "exceptional and continuous contribution to science education in Ghana and for being a role model and inspiration to many young girls, activities which are vital to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 5".

In 2011, Dr. Effah Kaufmann was awarded the prestigious International Women's Forum Leadership Foundation Fellowship.

Airbus scandal: Police statement on Interpol Red Alert was needless as Amidu unearths forgeries

The Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has described as needless the statement by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that his office' request triggered the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to issue a warrant for the arrest of Samuel Adam Fosters, also known as Samuel Adam Mahama in relation to the Airbus bribery scandal. He explained that his office built a good case warranting the Interpol red notices. The CID said it facilitated the request for the Office of the Special Prosecutor with the Interpol General Secretariat to get other security agencies to help arrest the four persons described as "fugitives". Voters registration: Over 11 million Ghanaians registered - EC

The Electoral Commission has revealed that more than eleven million Ghanaians have registered for the voters' ID card as of Friday, July 24, 2020. This indicates that the first four phases of the registration exercise have so far seen a total of 11,629,480 – eleven million six hundred and twenty-nine thousand four hundred and eight persons have registered and received their voters' ID. The Chairperson of the election management body, Jean Mensa, giving the number of Ghanaians registered in each region gave said "At the end of the fourth phase the Greater Accra Region had the highest number of registrants; totaling 2 million 615 thousand and 925 people (2,615,925) and the Ashanti Region came second with a total of 2 million 89 thousand and 923 people (2,089,923) and the Eastern Region came third with a total of 1 million 84 thousand and 734 people (1,084,734).
